This article was largely inspired by the following website.

The graph above shows the combination of exterior and interior colors with approximate sales figures in the US.
Since the sales distribution is roughly three times higher than in Japan, it serves as a good reference.
Below are the so-called rare exterior x interior color combinations (under 300 units).
- All CR series variants
- Berlina Black x Red interior
- Synchronic Silver Metallic x Red/Black interior
- Silverstone Metallic x Red interior
Rare exterior colors are as follows (under 3,000 units).
- Apex Blue Pearl
- Synchronic Silver Metallic
- Bermuda Blue Pearl
- New Indy Yellow Pearl
Rare interior colors are as follows (under 4,000 units).
Interestingly, red and blue interiors account for over 6,000 units each.
- Red x Black: 3,896 units
- Tan x Black: 1,923 units
- Yellow x Black: 699 units

The following colors were used in only one generation. As you can see, darker colors are quite prevalent.
- Apex Blue Pearl
- Synchronic Silver Metallic
- Dark Cardinal Red Pearl
- Premium Sunset Mauve Pearl
- Deep Burgundy Metallic

The A-pillar blackout is also a visually distinctive difference.

This specification uses stickers rather than paint, and retrofitting them is quite labor-intensive.
Since the pillar sticker is folded inside the A-pillar, windshield removal is required.
Additionally, the glass molding, roof-side rubber molding, and the pillar molding connecting to the rubber molding all need replacement—OEM parts alone exceed 80,000 yen.
Including labor, the total comes to around 130,000 yen.
In the US market, A-pillars were standardized with blackout treatment through the final Type S (CR), creating a cohesive look with black hardtops and black convertible tops.
Factory soft top colors are available in black and navy.
When opting for a non-black convertible top, a body-color A-pillar would look better.
The interior would also appear more cohesive without red.

While buyers could freely choose combinations based on their taste, now twenty years later, the ideal combination either requires patient searching or bringing your own car closer to your vision through modifications.

The condition of the mechanical components—which directly affect driving performance—is even more important than exterior appearance.
Since you’re driving a sports car, you should enjoy it in a condition where you can feel its true inherent potential.
Just thinking off the top of my head, there are the following mechanical variations, and with a trustworthy shop, you could combine them as desired.
- F20C or F22C
- With or without VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)
- Cable throttle or electronic throttle
- Rear member: Solid or Stable
While I wrote about the ideal S2000, there are actually countless ideal specifications.
A fully stock car is fine, and a customized one is equally fine.
As I compile all this information, I spend my days searching for an S2000 with anticipation.
