When it comes to cars, there’s no substitute for seeing them in person. Web images and YouTube videos don’t tell you everything—there’s so much you can only understand by actually seeing the car with your own eyes

996 Turbo. It has a commanding presence, and that sleek, thin silhouette is what makes it so cool—this is exactly the kind of feeling you can only appreciate in person. The quality of the red leather interior is outstanding.

991 Carrera. Imposing presence, Ferrari-inspired wheels, and that ducting above the rear engine—it really makes you feel the connection to the 996.

997 Carrera 4. Similar size to the 996, same body as the Turbo, but with a more composed, understated feel. Manual side brake, manual mirrors, and rear lights with incandescent bulbs that cast a soft, gentle glow.

From the driver’s seat, it’s almost all digital displays, with an electronic parking brake. Having seen the 911 across different generations, the 996 or 997 seems to be what suits me best. The 991 and newer feel too large, and they’re too electronic.

I don’t want a car to drive aggressively, so the Tiptronic appeals to me. Whether it’s RWD or AWD doesn’t matter, but I prefer the base model over the S.
