The belt was squealing during high-RPM gear changes, so I replaced it.
Since the air cleaner box had to come off, I also replaced the filter – it was quite dirty.
Probably manufactured in 2017. Thanks for 8 years of service. Also cleaned the air cleaner box.
Turn the tensioner’s 24mm bolt clockwise and it comes off easily.
Thread it through the gap and route it as before. Jet black, feels good. The grease inside the tensioner shaft had hardened, so I scraped it out and injected new grease.
The 996 really has excellent serviceability.
Most faults that occur during work can be handled with this tester.
