Just before the accident, I was feeling an intense sense of unity with the DB8. The pedal inputs and speed changes, the steering inputs and the car’s behavior—getting exactly the feedback I imagined from every input felt genuinely satisfying.
That’s precisely why I was so startled when the right rear suddenly kicked out hard. I clearly didn’t understand the car’s behavior, but so abruptly, the DB8 rotated more than 180 degrees.
Regarding this incident, since I can’t pinpoint the exact cause, I’m struggling to organize countermeasures. I don’t think there was any fault with the vehicle itself, but the tires had been on for about two years and their grip level wasn’t particularly high, so as a precautionary measure, I’m thinking of switching to modern high-grip tires.
Also, if there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, that means all the fault lies with me. Defining countermeasures for this is even more difficult, but it essentially comes down to managing risk more carefully than before.
I must not carelessly trust the road, oncoming traffic, or my own driving skills—because all of those are just convenient delusions of my own making.
